Cape Fear Heart Walk

Watson College faculty and staff joined more than 2,000 people for the American Heart Association’s 2017 Cape Fear Heart Walk on Oct. 28. The event, held on the UNCW campus, raised more than $180,000 to support research, advocacy and awareness for the prevention and treatment of stroke and heart disease. Nicole Geczi and Robert Smith were co-captains of the Watson Walkers team.

Brian Brinkley, Kathy Fox, Denise Ousley and Eleni Pappamihiel manned the phones in support of WHQR’s fall pledge drive on Oct. 15. Wilmington’s Public Radio Station raised more than $148,000 from 1,148 pledges during the seven-day drive.

Carter Williams Art Show Fundraiser

Eddie Caropreso, daughters Sara and Claire and wife, Betsy Bliger, hosted the Carter Williams Art Show and Fundraiser at the Jaycee Park Art Center in Greensville on Oct. 13-14. The event is held annually in honor of Eddie’s first wife and Sara and Claire’s mom, Carter Williams Caropreso, who died in 1996 from complications related to breast cancer. More than 200 artists from across North Carolina and other states including New York, California, Colorado and Georgia have shown art at the event since it was introduced in 2009. Proceeds from the 2017 fundraiser went to the Avon Foundation for Women’s Breast Cancer Crusade
