Seventy-three students from six area high schools participated in a Future Teacher Conference at the Watson College on Oct. 25.

The full-day conference featured workshops on a wide range of topics including early childhood education, literacy, STEAM education and building a world-reflective classroom. Associate Dean Carol McNulty provided a welcome and workshop presenters included faculty members Daisy Barreto, Brian Brinkley, Amy Garrett Dikkers, Hengameh Kermani, Shelby Morge and Brad Walker as well as CMC staff members Kathryn Batten and Tonia McKoy.

During the conference, Hannah Morgan shared UNCW admissions information and Krysti Adams shared WCE website and social media highlights. Students also enjoyed table discussions with Watson Student Leaders and a complimentary lunch at Wagoner Hall.

Allison Rankin, academic advisor in WCE’s Office of Student Advising and Integrated Leadership (SAIL), planned and coordinated the Future Teacher Conference, with support from La’Mon Johnson and Melissa Newcity. Students from Ashley, Hoggard, Lejeune, New Hanover, Northern Nash, and Swansboro high schools participated in the event.
