51 WCE Students Initiated into Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society

Tuesday, November 08, 2016

UNCW’s Alpha Alpha Pi Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi welcomed 51 new members this fall. Co-counselors Marsha Carr and Jaci Dempsey presided over an initiation ceremony and celebration at the Watson College on Nov. 3. Watson College Dean Van Dempsey also spoke at the event.

Kappa Delta Pi is an international honor society, dedicated to scholarship and excellence in education. Membership selection is based on high academic achievement, a commitment to education as a career and a professional attitude that assures steady growth in the profession. Watson College students must have a 3.5 grade point average or higher to be eligible for membership in KDP.

KDP offers members the opportunity to network with other pre-service teachers. Members also participate in service to the community.

WCE’s chapter co-counselors shared how impressed they are by the outstanding credentials of this cohort and how excited they are to have so many new KDP members at the Watson College. The group’s service initiatives for 2016-17 will focus on encouraging middle and high school students to consider a career in education, they said.
