Nuclear Science Week – Oct 20-22

The 2016 National Nuclear Science Week will be held at Watson College in October. The Wilmington Area Local Section of the American Nuclear Society, along with GE Hitachi and Duke Energy are hosting the event.

Free registration is now open for three events for students and teachers:

Nuclear and STEM Workshops for K-12 Classes – Oct. 20

Nuclear and STEM workshops for K-8 classes will be held on Thursday, Oct. 20. Teachers may register to bring their class to one of three time blocks:  9–10:15 a.m., 10:30–11:45 a.m. or 12:30 – 1:45 p.m. 

Registration is required.

Panel Sessions for High School Students – Oct. 21

Teachers are invited to bring their class of high school students to attend one or more panel sessions on a variety of nuclear related topics on Friday, Oct. 21 from 9 a.m.–4:15 p.m. Classes are also invited to stop by the Technology Expo, which is available all day and will include information booths and demonstrations from sponsors, museums and nuclear-related societies.

Teacher Workshop – Oct. 22

K-12 teachers are invited to attend a workshop on Saturday, Oct. 22 from 9 a.m. – noon to learn about nuclear detection and other experiments they can run in their classroom. Teachers completing the workshop will be given a refurbished detector to take back to their classroom and an activity booklet for lesson planning.
