New Video Promotes Watson Student Leader Program

Friday, September 02, 2016

WCE’s Watson Student Leaders are passionate about the WSL student organization, the teaching profession and their service to the college and the community.

In April, WSL president Dwayne Morgan initiated creation of a Watson Student Leaders video.

“The project aims to showcase the drive and tenacity of future teachers,” Morgan said. “It’s our hope to convey the fire and motivation that WSLs have for the teaching profession through student voices.”

Watson College Dean Van Dempsey and associate dean Carol McNulty lent their support to the program, and WSLs Allison Brown, Brittany Cottle, Makayla Hodge, Alyssa Smith and Natalie Tasselmyer joined Morgan in providing testimonials.

The new WSL video can be viewed here: https://youtu.be/GpEcUQt5PdQ.

Fall activities for WSLs began on Aug. 24, when students represented the Watson College at UNCW’s Involvement Carnival. They also initiated a fall membership drive for the WSL organization.

Additional fall outreach activities will include welcoming prospective students to campus for Seahawk Saturday on Oct. 1 and providing continued support to the North Carolina Food Bank. Over fall break, a trip to Atlanta is planned. While in Atlanta, WSLs will tutor children through the Hands On Atlanta organization and visit the Martin Luther King Memorial, the Atlanta Aquarium and Six Flags.

The Watson College introduced the Watson Student Leader program in 2013 for students who are passionate about the teaching profession. The role of the WSLs is to serve as ambassadors and represent the Watson College through leadership, professionalism and service.
