WCE Faculty, Partnership Districts Discuss Strategies for Teacher Recruitment, Retention

Saturday, January 02, 2016

Representatives from 10 school districts joined Dean Dempsey, associate deans Ann Potts and Carol McNulty and Watson College faculty for a PDS partner luncheon on Dec. 3. The focus of the event was on teacher recruitment and retention. Table topics for discussion included recruitment of P-12 students into the teaching profession, recruitment of WCE graduates into WCE’s PDS districts and teacher retention efforts.

Faculty and district partners identified potential strategies and opportunities for collaboration in each of these areas. Information discussed and ideas generated will be shared with WCE faculty and PDS partners by WCE’s Professional Development System (PDS) office.

The meeting was the second in a series designed to foster school-university collaboration on important issues in education. PDS director Somer Lewis coordinated the event.
