WCE Hosts Tailgate Social to Connect Prospective Students to Faculty, Alumni

Monday, November 02, 2015

Twenty UNCW freshmen and 17 Watson College alumni joined WCE faculty and staff for a barbeque dinner and the opening game of the 2015-16 men’s basketball season.

The Educators’ Tailgate Social was designed to give prospective education majors an opportunity to talk with Watson College faculty and educators in the field about the benefits of a career in teaching and programs offered by the college. The dinner event was held in the Clock Tower Lounge.

The Watson College provided complimentary basketball tickets, and participating students, alumni, faculty and staff joined thousands of fans to cheer the Seahawks on to a 100-62 victory in Trask Coliseum following the dinner.

Watson College Dean Van Dempsey, associate deans Carol McNulty and Ann Potts and faculty and staff members Alicia Brophy, Tanya Malacinski, Amy Moody, Melissa Newcity, Eleni Pappamihiel, Allison Rankin, Kathy Roney and Robert Smith participated in event, which was coordinated by Amy Rottmann, WCE’s director of Student Engagement and Recruitment.

Rottmann said feedback from participants was extremely positive, and WCE plans to make the Tailgate Social an annual event.
