ELLCs join WSLs for Kayaking, D.C. Travel

Tuesday, November 03, 2015

This fall, the Watson College welcomed 19 freshmen to the Education Living-Learning Community (ELLC) located in Schwartz Hall.

The students have been busy since they arrived on campus in August! The ELLCs joined their mentors for a breakfast at the Watson College in August and an afternoon of kayaking in September. In October, they enjoyed a historical trolley ride in downtown Wilmington, and a few joined WCE’s Watson Student Leaders on a trip to Washington, D.C. over fall break.

The ELLC has also been working hard in their UNI class on transitioning to college and learning about the teaching profession.

The Watson College introduced the ELLC in 2014 to provide first-year education majors a residential learning community that supports academic, social and educational development. Through the ELLC, students have the opportunity to live with other pre-education majors, connect with Watson faculty and staff, attend seminars and participate in education field experiences prior to being admitted into the Watson College of Education.

The ELLC program is coordinated by Amy Rottmann, director of student recruitment and engagement. For more information, visit www.uncw.edu/ed/ellc.
