WCE Celebrates Cathy Heglar’s Second Retirement

Dean Teitelbaum and associate dean Ann Potts joined faculty and staff at a celebration in honor of Cathy Heglar on April 27.

Heglar has served as a part-time faculty member in the Ed Lab since 2006. She came to WCE after teaching for 31 years in New Hanover County Schools. Heglar retired from her long career in education in May.

Brian Brinkley, director of the Ed Lab, quantified Heglar’s contributions. “Cathy has served more than 3,000 students and reviewed more than 144,000 lesson plans here in the Ed Lab,” he said.

Speaking directly to Heglar, Brinkley said, “Cathy, you asked us to promise we wouldn’t host a party to celebrate your retirement, but we couldn’t hold to that. On behalf of the Watson College faculty and students and the team at the Ed Lab, we thank you and want you to know we will miss you.”

Faculty, staff and friends across campus gathered in the Ed Lab on May 4 for a baby shower in her honor.

Glowa thanked her colleagues for their generosity and friendship. “My family is in Philadelphia, so it’s great to know I have a second family here in Wilmington,” she said.
