Joanne Nottingham and Students Recognized for Support of Soldiers

Each year, students minoring in Leadership Studies at UNCW work together on a leadership challenge project in service to the community. This fall, the students are working to raise funds and lend support to Step Up For Soldiers, a local nonprofit organization. Joanne Nottingham, faculty coordinator of Leadership Studies in the Department of Educational Leadership at the Watson College, and students in the Leadership Studies program were featured in an article about their work titled “Leadership group helps soldiers.” The story appeared in the StarNewsin November.

Barbara Honchell Barbara Honchell Recognized for Reading Recovery

Barbara Honchell, an associate professor of literacy education in the Department of Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle, Literacy and Special Education at the Watson College, is an expert on Reading Recovery®. She has worked with struggling readers through Reading Recovery for more than 20 years. Honchell was invited to deliver a keynote address at the 17th annual Kansas Reading Recovery and Early Literacy Conference held at Emporia State University in November. She was featured in an article about the conference that ran in The Emporia Gazette on Nov. 4.
