Population Workshop for K-8 STEM Teachers – Oct. 4

Tuesday, September 02, 2014

With a population now over 7 billion and growing, the Earth is getting crowded! UNCW’s Center for Education in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (CESTEM) will hold a free, three-hour workshop for K-8 STEM teachers on Oct. 4 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Discover lively, interdisciplinary activities that help students understand the ecological footprint and the challenges of sharing finite natural resources as demand grows. Engage in role-playing simulations, problem-solving challenges and critical thinking exercises that build students’ knowledge and skills in math, science and social studies.

Teachers will receive classroom-ready curricula that emphasize hands-on learning and balanced discussion of different viewpoints. All activities are matched to state and national standards.

The workshop will be held at the Watson College of Education, Room 223. Register by Oct. 1 online at www.uncw.edu/cestem; email at cestem@uncw.edu or call 910.962.3168
