Ten freshmen of the new Education Living-Learning Community (ELLC)

This fall, the Watson College welcomed ten freshmen to the new Education Living-Learning Community (ELLC) located in Schwartz Hall. The ELLC was created to provide first-year education majors a residential learning community that supports academic, social and educational development.

A welcome reception for ELLC students was held Aug. 18 in the Alumni Lounge of the Education Building. Amy Rottmann, WCE director of student engagement and recruitment, paired each ELLC student with a Watson College pre-service teacher who will serve as a mentor over the course of the year. A mentor-mentee breakfast was held on Sept. 4, and ELLCs joined their mentors for an afternoon of kayaking on Sept. 20.

ELLC KayakThrough the ELLC, students will have the opportunity to live with other pre-education majors, connect with Watson faculty and staff, attend seminars and participate in education field experiences prior to being admitted into the Watson College of Education.
