Teaching Fellows, Faculty and Staff Volunteer at NC Food Bank

WCE Teaching Fellows spent Martin Luther King Day volunteering at the NC Food Bank.  Eleni Pappamihiel, Candace Thompson, Amy Rottmann and Brenda Parker joined the students who sorted more than 3,000 pounds of apples for distribution to 100 organizations in the region.


Watson Student Leaders Hold Spring Meeting; Leadership Positions Announced

Watson Student Leaders (WSL) met Jan. 22 to plan spring semester events. The meeting was led by new WSL President Cyrus Taylor. Other student leadership positions announced for 2014 include Sarah Anderson, vice president; Lindsay Redfearn, treasurer; Charlotte Locke, recruitment; Corinne Spivey, outreach/social chair and Maddi Abrams, tour chair. SNCAE Teams with Outreach Office to Offer CPR Training

Twelve WCE students earning a two-year CPR certificationFirst Hands CPR was founded in Wilmington by Susan Giesler to provide quality accredited American Health Association certification courses in CPR.  The organization’s clients include Healthcare professionals, human resources agencies, churches and school systems. On Jan. 21 Giesler and her husband, a critical care paramedic, visited the Watson College to offer the three-hour course to pre-service teachers. Twelve WCE students participated and earned two-year CPR certification.  Student members of SNCAE worked with Deloris Rhodes, outreach liaison in the WCE Office of Teacher Education and Outreach, to bring this important program to the college.
