The 14th annual Wilmington Information Technology eXchange (WITX) held in April was the largest to date; 515 attendees participated in the event. WITX is the largest technology conference in southeast North Carolina, bringing together students, faculty, staff and industry technology professionals to share ideas and research. WITX 2017 featured 30 exhibitors, most of them students demonstrating their technology research, and tours and demos by virtual reality and digital arts students. The exchange also included a keynote on identity protection and privacy by Dr. Michael King, an Associate Professor of Computer Science and Cyber Security at Harris Institute for Assured Information at Florida Tech, as well as exhibits from community members such as UNCW’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and TekMountain.

WITX is a joint effort by the Department of Computer Science in the College of Arts and Sciences and the Information Systems & Operations Management department in the Cameron School of Business.

Dr. Laurie Patterson, chair of the Department of Computer Science, says students benefit from the collaboration. “The fact that we are physically located with ISOM, provides multiple technical experiences for all our students - computer science, information technology, information systems to name three programs,” she says. “WITX is a perfect example for students to showcase their work and research. It's an amazing event to see what has been created both within the programs and in other departments and programs across campus.”
