UNCW is refreshing one of our primary brand colors across all communications and marketing platforms. The new teal — officially launched July 1 as PMS 7714, RGB (0, 117, 128) or Hex #007680 — showcases a brighter, more vibrant color that enhances our visual consistency while staying true to UNCW’s brand identity.
As part of our ongoing efforts to maintain brand consistency, we are also revising university guidance for secondary logos, discontinuing their approved usage in most circumstances. This update supports the university’s strategic goal to strengthen brand awareness, creating clear, cohesive materials that will build stronger visual connections with UNCW. Units should use their official UNCW “house” logo and new teal color on materials moving forward.
Use of the “spirit” logo (featuring a side view of Sammy) has also been discontinued. The image will no longer represent the university going forward and has been officially archived.
What You Need to Know
- The web team will make all updates to the teal used on the main UNCW website.
- All digital media representing UNCW (including those on affiliated websites, applications, social media and other platforms) will need to transition to the new teal. The managers of these platforms are responsible for making changes in a timely manner this fall. Given the complexities involved in such transitions, we know the managers of these platforms will have questions about implementation. For assistance, please submit an OUR Request at uncw.edu/our.
- Discontinue use of secondary logos on any digital sites intended to represent UNCW. Use your official UNCW unit logo instead of a secondary logo to ensure instant brand recognition. OUR can provide units with official UNCW logos in the new teal, black and/or white. Please submit an OUR Request at uncw.edu/our for your unit’s files. Please note: With hundreds of units to assist across campus, we request your patience as we make adjustments. To support brand consistency, very few exceptions will be considered, but graphics from existing secondary logos may be used as design elements. If you have questions or would like to discuss your unit’s needs, submit an OUR request to schedule a consultation with OUR at uncw.edu/our. You may also contact the Office of University Relations via email for information and assistance.
Visit our new Marketing & Branding page to take a deeper dive into details, FAQs, etc. If you don’t see the information you need there, please reach out to our@uncw.edu.
You are an important part of the university’s branding efforts. Clear, consistent usage will help people recognize UNCW, what we stand for and why we matter. Thank you for being a part of this ongoing effort to help UNCW’s brand soar across all digital platforms.
