While growing up in Kernersville, NC, Tre Woods '23 would visit Wilmington and “was forever enchanted by the campus and the community in general.”

When he began considering different schools of education, UNCW’s Watson College of Education stood out to him “because of the continuing support that they provide to students and their commitment to holistic education principles.”

During his time on campus, Woods was a member of UNCW Model UN, UNCW Democrats and the Student North Carolina Association of Educators. From 2018-19, was president of the North Carolina Teacher Cadet Program, serving on the NC Public School Forum's Eggs and Issues and NC DRIVE Taskforce panels. He helped start WCE’s Student Educators of Color Network, which helps recruit and retain students of color into the teaching profession.

He spent this past semester teaching English in the RISE program at New Hanover High School. After graduating, he will begin his teaching career at Millbrook Magnet High School in Raleigh.

“Millbrook serves a comparable population to that of NHHS. Those students at NHHS taught me so much about teaching and how to connect with students. They will be in my mind forever as I move into other classrooms,” he said.

A true Seahawk, Woods took pride in the men’s basketball 2022-23 stellar season. “All three games against Charleston were extremely emotional days for me. Our win at home against ECU was a fun and rewarding game,” he said.
