UNCW is excited to offer 200 faculty and staff the opportunity to join our pilot program evaluating ChatGPT for the university. The pilot will run through April 1, 2027 and will explore how generative AI can support teaching, research, administration and daily productivity across campus.

ChatGPT is an Artificial Intelligence (AI) assistant that can help you learn new things, boost creativity and work more efficiently. It is designed to support innovation, productivity and problem-solving in many types of academic and administrative work.

By participating in the pilot, faculty and staff can gain hands-on experience with AI tools while helping UNCW better understand how these tools can provide value across the university.

What’s Included in the Pilot?

Participants will receive access to ChatGPT Enterprise, which includes enterprise-grade security and privacy, along with powerful AI features such as:

  • Unlimited access to GPT-5.5 Instant
  • File uploads and data analysis tools
  • Research, search, and project organization features
  • Voice and image generation capabilities
  • Access to new tools and features as they become available

Please note that only 200 licenses are available and will be allocated in the order in which requests are received.

What Participants Can Expect

As a pilot participant, you will:

  • Receive a ChatGPT license for university-related work
  • Explore ways AI can improve productivity and streamline tasks
  • Participate in feedback opportunities led by ITS
  • Share ideas, successes, questions, and challenges with colleagues through a Microsoft Teams community managed by ITS

Responsible & Secure AI Use

UNCW encourages the responsible and ethical use of AI technologies while maintaining appropriate data protection and privacy practices. Faculty and staff should continue to follow university guidance on the use of AI tools for institutional, confidential and protected information.
