STEM SENC Mini Grants Support STEM Education

STEM SENC has awarded Education Mini-Grants to 12 teachers in the region to support the implementation of innovative STEM programs for students.

The awards, which provide $400 for the purchase of supplies and equipment, plus a teacher stipend, were offered to K-12 teachers in schools in STEM SENC supported counties. To qualify, teachers were asked to propose projects that directly involve and provide ongoing benefits to students, include clearly defined goals and learning objectives, and use innovative and creative teaching methods. Priority was given to projects that reach underserved students. In applying, teachers created a STEM lesson plan and video so that other educators can use the lessons in their classrooms.

Recipients of 2024-25 mini-grants are:

  • Erica Huffman - Bladen County Schools
  • Dawn Schulte - Brunswick County Schools
  • Loraine Crosson - Cumberland County Schools
  • Jasmine Jones - Duplin County Schools
  • Elizabeth Babcock - Harnett County Schools

“STEM SENC is delighted to provide mini-grant awards to support teachers in enhancing STEM education in their regional classrooms,” said STEM SENC Executive Director Heddy Clark. “The awards, first offered in 2022, have helped to encourage the development of innovative classroom lessons and activities, and helped to foster connections among STEM professionals as they share STEM initiatives across the region.”

In addition to the mini-grant, awardees each received free registration to CESTEM’s PK-12 Education Conference to be held at the Watson College on June 24.

The Burroughs Wellcome Fund and Corning Incorporated provided funding for the mini-grants.
