Savannah Everhart ’24M is the recipient of the Exemplary Intern Award for an intern in a Master of Arts in Teaching graduate program. Savannah, who earned her master’s degree in Elementary Education, was recognized for her strong commitment to the profession. The award was presented at WCE’s teacher intern celebration seminar on April 29.

Connie Gruber nominated Savannah for the award. Dr. Gruber is a faculty member in WCE’s Department of Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle, Literacy and Special Education. She served as Savannah’s internship supervisor during the spring semester.

“Savannah is committed to being her best for her students,” Gruber said. “She is self-motivated in her work and in her program of study. She provides a safe and nurturing environment for all her students.”

During her internship, Savannah had an opportunity to develop an action research project to focus on the needs of her English Language Learners. Gruber said she incorporated teaching methods and a checklist that enhanced her classroom environment for her students.

“In her work, Savannah always advocates for her students and is committed to deepening her understanding of her students and their needs,” Gruber said. “She excels in all these areas and does so with enthusiasm, a positive attitude and always a smile on her face!”

WCE’s Office of Professional Experiences hosted the spring intern celebration. The Professional Experiences team works with Watson faculty and site coordinators in WCE’s Professional Development System partnership schools to coordinate thousands of field experiences and hundreds of internships for Watson College students each year. The placements give WCE students the opportunity to experience a variety of supportive, professional settings during their educational journey, while gradually assuming the responsibilities of a classroom teacher.
