UNCW’s Center for Education in in Science, Tech, Engineering and Math (CESTEM) hosted the Southeast Regional Science and Engineering Fair on February 10. The event provides an opportunity for third-to 12th-grade students from Sampson, Wayne, Craven, Pamlico, Jones, Onslow, Duplin, Carteret, Pender, New Hanover and Brunswick counties to showcase their STEM-related work, with winners advancing to state and international competitions.

“As one of the ten regional fairs across the state that promote students to the NC Science and Engineering Fair, we celebrate student-led research,” said Heddy Clark, Director of the Region 2 Science and Engineering Fair & Director of STEM Education & Engagement. “The competition gives students in southeastern North Carolina opportunities to build confidence, develop organizational skills, practice written and verbal communication skills, and showcase creativity through project-based inquiry.”

The  North Carolina Science Fair Foundation (NCSFF) sponsors the North Carolina Science and Engineering Fair. The Southeast Regional Fair is held annually on campus, with support from volunteers, teachers, and local fair coordinators throughout the region. Winners advanced to the state competition, held March 23 at NC State University.
