Future Teacher Conference – October 27

The Future Teacher Conference is an opportunity for High Schools, Community Colleges, and Home School groups to bring students to UNCW. This is a day where students who have an interest in education can feel what it is like to be a Watson student. During their time here, we will offer sessions for students based on their educational interests. Our faculty/staff provide sessions for the students who attend as interactive opportunities. Back by popular demand, we will also have a student panel discussion. This event is FREE to any student interested in learning about education as a career.

School administrators interested in bringing a group of students, or students interested in attending should contact Dean Heath at heatht@uncw.edu.

Educators of Color Network Meeting – November 16

The Educators of Color Network is a school-university partnership initiative created to help build a more diverse teacher workforce in North Carolina. The group is comprised of current and retired P-12 teachers and school leaders, university faculty and students who work collaboratively to envision and facilitate activities to recruit and retain teachers of color and to advocate for the teaching profession.

More than 190 educators from across the state are participating in the EOC Network.

The group hosts two meetings each semester, and shares news, events and information related to building a more diverse teacher workforce. In addition, EOC work groups meet throughout the year to plan and implement initiatives related to the Network’s three core areas of focus: recruitment, retention and advocacy.

The next meeting will be held virtually on November 16 from 4 to 6 p.m.

If you are interested in participating in the EOC Network, please complete their brief Member Survey. You will be added to the listserv which will provide information and registration details about upcoming meetings in subsequent emails.
