The College of Science and Engineering will present “Engineering Entrepreneurship,” a talk by James Fredley ’04, Executive Officer at Triumph Interactive, on April 8 from 4–5 p.m. in Discovery Hall 1070.
Fredley will speak about the intersection of engineering, innovation and new‑venture development. The session will offer practical guidance on translating strong technical skills into viable business opportunities, as well as insights into navigating the early challenges of entrepreneurship. Attendees can expect a discussion on identifying and evaluating emerging opportunities, developing an entrepreneurial mindset and applying structured methods to prototype, iterate and scale new ideas.
A graduate of UNCW’s computer science program and an active member of the department’s Executive Advisory Board, Fredley began building websites and managing client projects while still in high school in the late 1990s. He continued this work throughout his undergraduate years before moving on to launch and scale multiple technology‑driven startups. Over the course of his career, Fredley has helped companies grow from inception to 7‑ and 8‑figure revenue and has overseen more than $1 billion in cumulative revenue across 13 startup ventures.
The event, sponsored by the Department of Computer Science, the Software Engineering program and the Association for Computing Machinery, is open to students interested in entrepreneurship, technology innovation or learning from the experiences of a seasoned startup leader. Registration is required.
