AACSB Reaffirms Accreditation of UNCW’s Cameron School of Business
The Cameron School of Business at the University of North Carolina Wilmington has once again earned accreditation from AACSB International – The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Following a rigorous peer-review process, the AACSB Board of Trustees voted to extend the school’s accreditation, affirming its ongoing commitment to excellence in business education.
Founded in 1916, AACSB is the longest-serving global accrediting body for business schools and a worldwide alliance of institutions committed to improving business practice through education, innovation, and impact. Fewer than 6 percent of the world’s schools offering business degrees at the bachelor’s level or higher have achieved AACSB accreditation, placing the Cameron School in elite company.
To maintain accreditation, business schools must demonstrate excellence in strategic management, learner success, faculty scholarship, and professional engagement. The AACSB review team commended the Cameron School for its deep connections to the business community, outstanding student experiences, and a collaborative and scholarly culture grounded in trust and innovation. Signature programs such as Business Week, global study opportunities, and student-led consulting projects were highlighted as points of distinction, along with the school’s strong record of mentorship and job placement through the Cameron Executive Network and employer partnerships.
“The reaffirmation of AACSB accreditation is a powerful endorsement of the work our faculty, staff, students, alumni, and supporters do every day to elevate business education,” said Dr. Robert T. Burrus, Interim Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at UNCW. “We’re especially proud of how we’ve expanded access to high-quality programs—developing new degrees and certificates that meet workforce needs across North Carolina and beyond. This recognition fuels our momentum as we prepare students for leadership in a rapidly changing world.” Burrus served as Dean of the Cameron School of Business from 2015-2025.
The Cameron School has experienced significant growth since its last accreditation review. With over 3,500 students, the school now offers four undergraduate degree programs, six graduate degree programs—including the recently launched online M.S. in Supply Chain Management—and two graduate certificate programs, including an online certificate in Human Resource Management. Many of these programs are delivered in collaboration with other colleges at UNCW, reflecting the school’s interdisciplinary approach and responsiveness to regional economic needs.
The continued AACSB accreditation reflects the Cameron School’s enduring vision to generate competitive, market-ready graduates and to produce innovative scholarship that impacts the practice of business.
