COLLEGE OF HUMANITIES, SOCIAL SCIENCES, AND THE ARTS
FACULTY RESEARCH CELEBRATION

April 1-4

Faculty research panel and closing reception Thursday, April 4, 4:00 – 6:30

Summary of event:

The CHSSA Faculty Research event is a celebration of the breadth and scope of research in the Humanities, Social Sciences, and the Arts in our new college.

The exhibition will be installed on Monday, April 1, in the Sherman Hayes Gallery and in front of the maker-space. Chris Rhodes from Randall Library will manage the installation. The exhibit will remain on display through Thursday, April 4. On Thursday, April 4 there will be a faculty panel discussion by recent recipients of Research Awards. The panel will take place in the Randall Library Auditorium from 4:00 – 5:00. The panel precedes the closing reception which will be held on April 4 from 5:00 – 6:30.

One goal is to have every department in CHSSA represented in some way. Because of space restrictions, we may need to limit the number of examples from some departments. We will do our best to accommodate all submissions.

HOW CAN YOU PARTICIPATE:

  1. Submit an existing poster from a performance, conference, or presentation. These will be displayed on easels.
    • Existing posters need to be delivered to Alyssa Hamman in Bear 109 by March 25.
  1. Create a poster for this event. It does not need to be a complex research poster like we see at CSURF Think about creating a PowerPoint slide that has a visual, a summary of the project, and a headshot. Please include title, the manner of presentation (published or conference, performance, or inclusion in a juried exhibition), department, academic rank, and year you joined UNCW. CHSSA will pay for printing and laminating.
    • New visual material, such as PowerPoint slides need to be delivered to Bear 109 by COB March 20. Please indicate if you want the image printed or included on the rotating digital display.
  2. Submit an image or two for the flat screen display. The flat screen will be displaying images on a loop. These can be a PowerPoint slide or other format you choose. Please make sure the slide is clearly labelled.
    • Images need to be delivered to Alyssa Hamman in Bear 109 or via email at hammana@uncw.edu by March 25.
  1. Submit recently published books. Please accompany each title with a clear label and a brief paragraph providing context. Bound articles or off-prints are also welcome. These will be displayed in locked display cases and returned.
    • Publications need to be delivered to Alyssa Hamman in Bear 109 by March 25.
  1. Submit a creative achievement. This can be a visual work of art, an artifact of theatrical research/performance or a recent CD. We are exploring ways to play original music during the reception.
    • Objects need to be delivered to Alyssa Hamman in Bear 109 by March 25.
    • If you wish to participate in the installation of your work, please let Alyssa know and we can arrange to meet Chris Rhodes on April 1.
