UNCW Alert: Weather Monitoring for Monday, March 16

UNCW Alert

UNCW is closely monitoring forecasts from the National Weather Service Wilmington for Monday, March 16. While rainy and windy conditions are expected, current projections do not indicate a need to cancel classes or modify the university’s normal operating schedule. If that changes, the university will provide an update.

Please stay alert and continue checking your email, text messages, the UNCW Mobile app, the UNCW Alert SafeZone app and the UNCW Alert website for any updates. Parents and community members may receive emergency notifications by downloading the UNCW Mobile app.

Weather Safety Awareness

Please prioritize your safety during and after stormy weather. Allow extra time when traveling to, from, and around campus. Avoid driving through standing water or entering stormwater runoff, which may contain hazards. Stay aware of your surroundings when walking or driving across campus. If conditions prevent you from safely traveling to campus, please review the guidance below.

Classes Classes will operate on a regular schedule. Students should contact their course instructor(s) as soon as possible if weather conditions will not permit them to attend class. However, all course policies remain in effect; students should consult their course syllabi for further details concerning class attendance  and monitor their student email and Canvas site for updated messages from instructor(s).University policy on class attendance can be found in the UNCW Academic Catalogues in the University Regulations section for the undergraduate catalogue and in the Academic Regulations and Procedures section for the graduate catalogue.

Likewise, faculty who cannot be on campus Monday due to weather conditions have the option to adjust course modalities and arrange make-up work. Faculty will communicate any changes directly with their students.  Any additional questions regarding courses should be directed to the course instructor(s) or the academic department chair/school director. (A list of academic departments/schools can be found on each college website.)

University Employees

Employees who need to adjust their work schedules due to weather-related concerns should contact their supervisor as early as possible. Supervisors are encouraged to be flexible when working with employees on scheduling needs.

Thank you for your time and attention to this weather alert. The university will send updates if conditions warrant a change in class schedules or operations.
