High Point University President Nido Qubein, one of North Carolina’s most influential higher education leaders, will headline the Chancellor’s Dare to Learn Lecture on Monday, April 6, 2026, at 7 p.m. in the Burney Center. Known for his transformative leadership, business expertise and compelling life story, President Qubein brings a respected and inspiring voice to this year’s signature campus lecture. Tickets are free and open to the public, with registration required.
He has served as president of High Point University since 2005, making him the longest‑serving university president in North Carolina. During his tenure, he has led the institution through extraordinary growth, including a 322% increase in enrollment, an expansion of faculty from 108 to 502, and the addition or renovation of 128 campus buildings, representing more than $3 billion in capital investment. High Point University also evolved into a doctoral‑granting institution and invested significantly in state‑of‑the‑art technology as part of its academic transformation.
“Nido Qubein’s extraordinary leadership journey and his long‑standing contributions to North Carolina make him an exceptional voice for our Seahawk community to hear,” Volety said. “We look forward to welcoming him to UNCW for a meaningful evening of insight and inspiration.”
In addition to his achievements in higher education, Qubein is recognized as a distinguished business leader and philanthropist. He has served in leadership roles with organizations such as YMCA of the USA, the High Point Chamber of Commerce, the United Way of Greater High Point, the High Point Economic Development Corporation and the High Point Community Foundation. His corporate service includes being the longest‑serving board member in the history of Truist (formerly BB&T), where he chaired the executive committee, as well as leadership roles with Great Harvest Bread Company, La‑Z‑Boy Corporation and Savista.
Qubein’s personal journey is as remarkable as his professional accomplishments. Raised in the Middle East by a single mother following the loss of his father at age six, he immigrated to the United States as a teenager and supported himself through college. He attended Mount Olive College, then High Point University, to receive his bachelor’s degree, and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro for graduate studies. Each of his alma maters later awarded him an honorary doctorate. His life story reflects resilience, determination and a steadfast commitment to service.
The Chancellor’s Dare to Learn Lecture Series brings to campus leaders who encourage the community to explore diverse perspectives and ideas. Past speakers include former NASA astronaut Capt. Scott Kelly, the Honorable Aldona Woś, M.D., political strategists Donna Brazile and Karl Rove and former Vice President Mike Pence. Named for the university’s Latin motto Discere Aude, translated as “dare to learn,” the series celebrates stories of leadership, innovation and impact.
