We Remember

Bradley Wayne Reid

August 9, 1954-July 22, 2025

A devoted Seahawk, Bradley Wayne Reid (Brad) served as UNCW’s director of Housing and Residence Life from 1999 until his retirement in 2015.

Born in Shelbyville, Illinois, to Don and Helen Reid, he graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1972 and attended Illinois State University. He married his middle school girlfriend, Debbie Dunaway, in 1976. His career in higher education started at his alma mater and took him to UNC Charlotte, Appalachian State and UNCW. His 15+ years as UNCW’s chief housing officer meant the world to him, and his impact on the university’s housing community was significant. Brad oversaw the additions of Cornerstone Hall, Seahawk Crossing, Seahawk Landing and Seahawk Village. He was also a member of the E.L. White Society.

Brad is survived by his daughter Sarah Henderson; son-in-law Zac Henderson; brother Robert Reid of Charlotte; and his beloved granddogs Henry and Lou.

William Joseph Baggett

November 29, 1946-July 14, 2025

Known for his loyalty, adventurous spirit and deep love for the coast, William Joseph Baggett (Billy) was a steady presence in the Wilmington community.

Billy graduated from East Carolina University, served in the U.S. Coast Guard and started his career as a math teacher in Wilmington. He later earned an MBA from Loyola University and became a managing partner of the Blockade Runner Beach Resort.

A devoted supporter of student success, Billy established both the William Baggett Internship Award and the William Baggett Scholarship in Business — endowed funds that support UNCW’s Cameron School of Business students pursuing internships and degrees in cybersecurity, information technology and artificial intelligence. He was a member of the E.L. White Society and the Wilmington Society.

He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Ann Hungerford Baggett. He is survived by his siblings Mary Webber Baggett, Joseph Woodrow Baggett Jr. and Benjamin Huske Baggett; nephews Joseph Woodrow Baggett III and Polk Baggett; godson Jake Evans Stowe; and lastly, his second-favorite cat, Homer Hemingway.
