Chris King, a residence coordinator for the UNC Wilmington Department of Housing and Residence Life has been recognized by North Carolina Housing Officers (NCHO) as the 2025 Outstanding New Professional of North Carolina. King was recognized at the NCHO annual conference hosted at the North Carolina Agricultural and Technical University in Greensboro.

"I am extremely honored and grateful to have been recognized with this award and to have been nominated by my supervisor and department’s leadership,” King said. “I do what I do for the students and their experience, and I am proud that my work has left an impact worth recognizing. I could not do this work without the tremendous support from my department, and I certainly would not have the motivation if it weren’t for the amazing students that I have the privilege of working with each day."

This prestigious award recognizes a colleague in their first three years as a professional staff member in housing and residence life. Recipients demonstrate exceptional performance, meaningful contributions to their department and campus, and strong potential for a thriving career in the campus housing field.

"Since King arrived at housing and residence life at UNCW, he has modeled exemplary service to our department," said Brittany Philbert, director of residence life. "As a residence coordinator for one of our first-year areas, he has led, supported and managed those in his community with the utmost care. He brings adaptability, enthusiasm to learning and a solution-oriented mindset to his work, contributing as a collaborative and dependable team member."
