UNCW shattered enrollment records, welcoming 19,895 students this fall — a 5.6% jump from last year, according to preliminary data from the Office of Institutional Research and Planning. This milestone reflects UNCW’s growing reputation for academic excellence and student success.
- Undergraduate enrollment rose to 16,131 students, up 5.7% from 15,254.
- Graduate enrollment reached 3,764 students, a 4.7% increase from 3,594.
UNCW also welcomed its largest-ever class of first-year undergraduate students, with 3,109 new Seahawks joining campus — a 12.9% increase over last year’s incoming class of 2,754. Transfer student enrollment climbed to 2,034, up 8.1% from 1,881.
"This historic enrollment reflects what makes our university so special — top-notch academics, high-impact learning opportunities and an unbeatable coastal location,” said Chancellor Aswani K. Volety. “Our dedicated faculty and staff work tirelessly to deliver meaningful experiences, through teaching, mentoring, research and service, that truly change students’ lives."
University officials emphasize that these figures are preliminary and subject to final verification and approval by the UNC System Office. Minor adjustments may occur as data is reviewed for accuracy.
UNCW’s momentum is driven by a dynamic mix of strategic initiatives and student-centered innovation, said Cynthia Demetriou, associate provost for Student Engagement, Enrollment and Retention (SEER). The university has expanded its academic offerings to include flexible, career-relevant programs. These programs are designed to align students’ education with real world opportunities and evolving industries, she said.
UNCW continues to offer a high-quality student experience on a beautiful campus, attracting students from all across the country, Demetriou added.
“The university delivers the personalized engagement and support college students and their families are seeking,” she said. “Competitive tuition, financial aid packages and scholarships also make UNCW an accessible choice for many. UNCW’s commitment to excellence, innovation and student success is resonating louder than ever.”
