Message from Chancellor Volety: Michael Wilhelm Named Chief of Staff

Dear Seahawk Community: 

I have the pleasure today of announcing the university’s new chief of staff, a leader who has already served our university well for nearly a decade—Dr. Michael Wilhelm. Many of you are already familiar with Michael’s commitment to UNCW through his leadership as associate provost for Global Partnerships and International Education. 

The university conducted a national search to fill the chief of staff position. Michael’s thorough knowledge of the challenges and opportunities affecting higher education today made him a standout contender in a strong group of applicants. At this time, I want to thank the search committee, led by Miles Lackey, vice chancellor for Business Affairs, for their efforts.  

I have known Michael for many years, and during that time, I have come to value his insight, expertise and discretion. As chief of staff, Michael will serve as my right hand, managing daily operations in the chancellor’s office and serving as my representative in various capacities, both formally and informally, as needs arise.
