Update from Chancellor: Equality Policy Report Available

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff:

As our university settles into the fall semester, I want to share an update with you about UNCW’s plan to address the Equality Policy, Section 300.8.5 of the UNC Policy Manual.

The policy required compliance reports, due by Sept. 1, that were presented to the UNC Board of Governors Committee on University Governance earlier today (Sept. 11). Our full report and the reports from other institutions within the UNC system are now available on the UNC System website.

Last month, UNCW shared key parts of our plan with you. We carefully considered the impact on students, staff, programs and services. Three principles guided our decisions: (1) Comply with the policy’s requirements. (2) Support students’ needs for continued success. (3) Take care of our permanent staff to the best of our ability.

Under UNCW’s plan, students will continue to receive the services they need and deserve. How we provide that support might look different, but our emphasis on helping our Seahawks soar stays the same and will not change. If we all work together, we can explore new approaches and create more connections now and in the future among students, faculty, staff, alumni and the community. Please send your ideas and inquiries to equalitypolicy@uncw.edu. By adding resources to both Student Affairs and Academic Affairs, we are focused on enhancing student success initiatives across the university.

Best wishes for the fall semester.

Sincerely yours,

Aswani K. Volety
Chancellor
