Unparalleled opportunities, nationally prominent programs, community commitment and world-class operations and infrastructure are the pillars on which the university will rely as the 2024 Campus Master Plan becomes reality.

The UNCW Board of Trustees unanimously approved the plan at its quarterly meeting on Thursday, Aug. 1.

“The master plan serves as our roadmap for developing UNCW’s campus in innovative and meaningful ways,” said Chancellor Aswani K. Volety. “Our classrooms, buildings, labs and campus spaces serve our students, faculty, staff and the region. The master plan underscores our commitment to strategic planning and sets a clear direction for UNCW’s future.”

The purpose of the UNCW 2024 Campus Master Plan is to ensure the highest and best use of the university's physical assets, both developed and undeveloped, to meet the university's academic, research and outreach missions.

Short term plans include a campus welcome center, a parking structure, a residence hall on the former Galloway Hall site and a Veterans Hall anatomy lab. These plans, along with 14 others, are projected to be completed in the next five years. Longer term plans include central parking deck expansion, additional student housing and academic building additions and expansions.

"The approval of the master plan marks an exciting time of expansion and growth at UNCW," said H. Carlton Fisher, UNCW Board of Trustees chair. "People want to be at UNCW, whether as students, faculty, staff or involved members of the community, and we are committed to providing high quality, innovative spaces and resources to best serve them. This master plan emphasizes that commitment."

Over 1,700 students, faculty, staff, alumni and Wilmington community members participated in the Campus Master Plan open forums and online surveys.

More details on the 2024 Campus Master Plan can be found in the Board of Trustees Business Affairs Committee materials from August 1.
