Invitation from Chancellor Volety: Employee Survey Kickoff

UNC System Employee Engagement Survey Launches with March 25 Celebration

Dear Faculty and Staff:

Each day, when I walk around campus, I feel the energy created by an exciting combination of Seahawk people, programs and places. We share a common purpose: to make a difference, to teach and learn, to change and grow, and to serve our students, campus and community. We also share a common commitment to continuing and enhancing a quality work environment for faculty and staff. The more inspired and fulfilled you are, the better we serve our students and the State of North Carolina.

The University of North Carolina System is also committed to these efforts. The System Office wants to know more about employee engagement and the work environment. Toward this goal, the System Office will launch the fourth iteration of its system-wide employee engagement survey project on March 25. The 2024 survey will be shorter than previous versions but will continue to include a broad range of questions to measure faculty and staff feedback on several topics.

Your participation in this survey is a vital part of our efforts to recruit, retain and develop the most talented and diverse workforce possible. As you saw in SWOOP earlier today, UNCW is hosting an Employee Engagement Celebration to kick off the survey. I hope to see you there!

Employee Engagement Survey Kickoff Celebration: 3-5 p.m., Monday, March 25, Warwick Center

I know this is a long email, and many of you already are engaged in other surveys this semester. I encourage you to make time for this one as well. Please watch your campus email for the link, and thank you, in advance, for your participation.

You are Seahawks, and your voices matter to me, to our students and to the university. By taking part in this survey, you will contribute to an important data source that will help us soar higher together in the future.

Participation: Voluntary and confidential. You will receive a unique login and password that only you can use to participate in the survey, and you will be able to access the survey wherever a computer is available, even at home, on a PC, tablet or phone.

Time commitment: 10 minutes, and you may complete it on or off work time.

Only ModernThink will have access to individual employee responses so that results cannot be connected back to individuals.

More information: Contact ModernThink directly at 888.684.4658 or at surveys@modernthink.net to address any concerns.

UNCW Human Resources Contact: Amy Hector, Senior Learning & Talent Development Specialist, 910.962.3698 or hectora@uncw.edu.

Website: Employee Engagement Survey

Results: Data from previous surveys were shared with the UNC Board of Governors and posted publicly on the System’s website; used to assess human resource metrics such as turnover data; and supported efforts to pursue key longer-term policy and programmatic changes, such as the introduction of paid parental leave and enhancements to university benefit programs where possible. This fall, we will receive and share reports that summarize the data provided so that we can recognize our successes and begin to address concerns that most directly affect and influence our workplace culture.

Yours in Seahawk Service,

Aswani K. Volety
Chancellor
