Molly McKeown Named New Communications Director

Molly McKeown has been promoted to communications director within UNCW’s Office of University Relations. She has served as the director of web communications, working closely with Information Technology Services to manage the university’s website. She will begin the new role on Nov. 1, 2023.

As communications director, McKeown will oversee content development, management and coordination for the university website, digital and print publications, internal communications and media relations. The shift realigns OUR’s staffing to support communication strategies, institutional goals and priorities. She will work closely with Chief Marketing and Communication Officer Andrea Monroe Weaver, along with the art, media production and marketing directors.

McKeown joined UNCW in 2007 as the web communications manager and was named web communications director in 2017. In that position, McKeown assisted hundreds of campus web content contributors, facilitated creative collaboration with campus constituents and administered governance standards for web communications. Previously, she served as communications manager for an engineering research institute at Ohio University. She also has experience in internal and emergency communications as well as media relations.

McKeown earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism and human environmental sciences from The Ohio State University and a webmaster certificate in design media from NC State University.
