Eden Briley '23 is among nine students awarded a competitive DeJoy-Woś Family Foundation Scholarship. The recipients, all with ties to North Carolina or Estonia, received tuition and housing scholarships to attend The Fund for American Studies programs held this summer in Washington, D.C.

The TFAS program pairs students with internship opportunities in their field of study. Students worked with congressional offices, government agencies, trade associations and policy groups. Scholars also took courses at George Mason University, attended site briefings at major government institutions, and participated in guest lectures.

Briley interned with the USDA's Single Family Housing Guaranteed Loan Program, where she developed data analysis and written reporting skills. She and other interns generated statistics for a succession plan using various data analysis techniques.

"My experience with the USDA was wonderful, and I highly encourage other students to consider an internship with any part of the department," she said.

Briley graduated with a bachelor's degree in criminology. While at UNCW, Briley also studied abroad at the University of Stirling in Scotland during the Fall 2021.

The DeJoy-Woś Scholarship program has been funded for 18 years by the DeJoy-Woś Family Foundation established by Louis DeJoy, North Carolina business leader and current U.S. Postmaster General, and his wife and former U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Estonia, Dr. Aldona Woś. Woś is a current member of the UNCW Board of Trustees.

"I cannot express how grateful I was and still am that I was selected as a scholar," said Briley. "I have immense respect and gratitude for Mr. DeJoy and Dr. Wós and appreciate all they continue to do for students like me."
