Wednesday, December 14, 2022

UNCW is one of more than 100 agencies set to receive funds from the New Hanover Community Endowment’s inaugural funding cycle. The endowment’s Cape Fear Opportunities and Needs Grants awards will total $9,055,050. Selected applicants successfully demonstrated how the funds will benefit one of the endowment’s four areas of focus: community safety, health and social equity, public education and community development.

“The university is grateful to the New Hanover Community Endowment for its investment in these impactful UNCW programs. We look forward to enhancing our service to our community in partnership with the endowment,” said UNCW Chancellor Aswani K. Volety.

The recipients were officially announced on Dec. 9. The UNCW entities awarded funds are:

  • MI CASA
  • The Center for Education in STEM
  • The College of Health and Human Services
  • The School of Health and Applied Human Sciences
  • The School of Nursing (Barbershop Initiative)
  • The School of Social Work
  • UNCW Learn-to-Swim Program

The NHCE was formed in 2020 through the sale of the county-owned New Hanover Regional Medical Center to Novant Health. The organization seeks to improve the health, education, safety and economic opportunity of New Hanover County and its citizens. The one-time, non-renewable grants will be dispensed by the end of the year.
