Several Seahawks Selected for GWBJ's Annual WilmingtonBiz 100 List

Several UNCW Seahawks have made the Wilmington 100 list, an annual Greater Wilmington Business Journal initiative “to recognize the top 100 Power Players, Influencers, Innovators, Connectors and Rising Stars impacting Southeastern North Carolina’s business landscape.” 

UNCW Chancellor Aswani K. Volety is included in the Power Player category, which WilmingtonBiz describes as “the businesspeople and officials having the greatest impact on the region’s business and economic landscape.” 

In the Influencers category, “the changemakers, in front of or behind the scenes,” Dr. Robert Burrus, dean, Cameron School of Business; and Mouhcine Guettabi, associate professor of economics and finance and Wilmington regional economist, are on the list. 

In the Innovators category, “the disruptors shaking things up and getting the region to see things in a different way,” Dr. Ulku Clark, professor, Congdon School of Supply Chain and director, UNCW Center for Cyber Defense Education; Dr. Ken Halanych, executive director, Center for Marine Science; and Dr. Yousry Sayed, president & CEO, Quality Chemical, UNCW Board of Trustees member, former UNCW professor and current adjunct faculty member, are named. 

In the Connectors category, “the real-world networkers who bring together people and resources to get things done,” Heather McWhorter, director, UNCW Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, is included. Sheri Shaw, assistant dean for student success, College of Health and Human Services, also made this list for her work as co-founder of Three Ladies in Wilmington. 

The complete Wilmington 100 list also includes several UNCW alumni. The honorees were celebrated at a private party hosted by the Greater Wilmington Business Journal on Dec. 8.
