Campus Celebration to Honor Chancellor Sartarelli April 22

Monday, April 04, 2022

Please mark your calendars for a special celebration to honor retiring Chancellor Jose V. Sartarelli on Friday, April 22. The UNCW Board of Trustees will host a building dedication at Osprey Hall at 11:30 a.m., followed by a campus picnic in the parking lot behind Cameron Hall at noon. The rain location is the Warwick Center.
“Chancellor Sartarelli has constructed a bold new future for UNCW, from establishing 20 new degree programs to helping the university secure about $750 million in financial support,” said Gidget Kidd ’91, Chair of the UNCW Board of Trustees. “Under his leadership, UNCW successfully navigated multiple hurricanes and a global pandemic, launched the largest philanthropic campaign in its history, added engineering options to its academic programs, achieved a new research designation and consistently ranked among the best public universities in the nation. For these reasons and many others, the Board of Trustees looks forward to honoring him on April 22."
The Chancellor took office July 1, 2015, as UNCW’s sixth chancellor and ninth leader, and will retire on June 30, 2022. He previously served as West Virginia University’s chief global officer and Milan Puskar Dean of the College of Business and Economics. He also spent three decades in international marketing and management with three global pharmaceutical companies – Eli Lilly and Company, Bristol Myers Squibb and Johnson & Johnson.
