After a national search, Dr. Carol McNulty has been appointed the associate provost for undergraduate education and faculty affairs at UNCW, effective immediately.   

McNulty joined the university in 2006 and has served in an interim capacity for this role since July 2021. 

The associate provost for undergraduate education and faculty affairs is a new position that provides focused leadership for faculty development and welfare; supports and advances the Honors program, the University Studies program, and the undergraduate research and fellowships priority; collaborates with the Faculty Senate to develop and champion policy and procedure development related to faculty affairs; and provides leadership for new undergraduate degree program development and implementation in collaboration with faculty, program leaders and deans. 

McNulty will report to the provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs and be a member of the Provost’s Cabinet.

“Dr. McNulty is a talented member of our university community who brings a diverse set of experiences to this role,” said Provost James J. Winebrake. "I am confident under Dr. McNulty’s leadership, we will be able to build on our successes to develop a comprehensive faculty support, development and engagement model that, when integrated with robust undergraduate programming, will serve us well as we evolve as a large, national, public research university."  

In addition to the current interim role, McNulty has held several administrative positions at UNCW, including associate dean for academic and student affairs in the Watson College of Education, interim dean of the Graduate School, interim director of the Office of Institutional Effectiveness, and special assistant to the provost. 

“I am thrilled to lead the efforts to support our faculty in career development and undergraduate program enhancements,” said McNulty. “I look forward to continued and new collaborations as the institution evolves.” 

McNulty earned a Ph.D. in Elementary Education from the University of Georgia. She holds a tenured faculty appointment as associate professor in the Department of Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle, Literacy, and Special Education in the Watson College of Education.
