UNCW Offers COVID-19 Vaccines and Boosters During Drop-in Clinics Oct. 26-29
Monday, October 25, 2021
UNCW is now offering students, staff, faculty and community members access to all three COVID-19 vaccines and boosters. Individuals interested in receiving a vaccine or booster can obtain one during one of three “drop-in” vaccine clinics. The clinics are scheduled for:
- Tuesday, Oct. 26 from 1-4 p.m. in the Warwick Center
- Wednesday, Oct. 27 from 1-4 p.m. in the Warwick Center
- Friday, Oct. 29 from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and 1-4:30 p.m. in the Student Health Center
First and Second Doses
UNCW will be administering the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine, approved for those at least 18 years of age. This vaccine requires only a single dose, which means recipients are considered “fully vaccinated” two weeks after receiving it.The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is available to those 17 and older. This is a two-dose vaccine and will require you to schedule a second dose three weeks after the first dose.
Booster Doses
Individuals are now able to receive any brand of COVID-19 vaccine for their booster shot. Some people may prefer the vaccine type that they originally received, and others may prefer to get a different booster. The CDC’s recommendations now allow for this type of mix-and-match dosing for booster shots.
For individuals who received a Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, the following groups are eligible for a booster shot at six months or more after their initial series:
- 65 years and older
- 18+ who have underlying medical conditions
- 18+ who work in high-risk settings
- 18+ who live in high-risk settings
For the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine, booster shots are also recommended for those who are 18 and older and who were vaccinated two or more months ago.
Vaccines, including boosters, are available while supplies last. As a reminder, the UNCW vaccine clinic will only serve those 17 and above.
For more information about booster eligibility, visit the CDC website.
