UNCW Offers COVID-19 Vaccines and Boosters During Drop-in Clinics Oct. 26-29

Monday, October 25, 2021

UNCW is now offering students, staff, faculty and community members access to all three COVID-19 vaccines and boosters. Individuals interested in receiving a vaccine or booster can obtain one during one of three “drop-in” vaccine clinics.

The clinics are scheduled for:
  • Tuesday, Oct. 26 from 1-4 p.m. in the Warwick Center
  • Wednesday, Oct. 27 from 1-4 p.m. in the Warwick Center
  • Friday, Oct. 29 from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and 1-4:30 p.m. in the Student Health Center
No appointment is necessary and all are welcome. There is no cost. After receiving the vaccine, you will need to remain in place for 15 minutes.

First and Second Doses

UNCW will be administering the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine, approved for those at least 18 years of age. This vaccine requires only a single dose, which means recipients are considered “fully vaccinated” two weeks after receiving it.

The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is available to those 17 and older. This is a two-dose vaccine and will require you to schedule a second dose three weeks after the first dose.

Booster Doses

Individuals are now able to receive any brand of COVID-19 vaccine for their booster shot. Some people may prefer the vaccine type that they originally received, and others may prefer to get a different booster. The CDC’s recommendations now allow for this type of mix-and-match dosing for booster shots.

For individuals who received a Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, the following groups are eligible for a booster shot at six months or more after their initial series:

  •  65 years and older
  •  18+ who have underlying medical conditions
  •  18+ who work in high-risk settings
  •  18+ who live in high-risk settings

For the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine, booster shots are also recommended for those who are 18 and older and who were vaccinated two or more months ago.

Vaccines, including boosters, are available while supplies last. As a reminder, the UNCW vaccine clinic will only serve those 17 and above.

For more information about booster eligibility, visit the CDC website.
