Message from Chancellor Sartarelli: Statement of Support for U.S. Service Members

Friday, August 27, 2021

On behalf of the UNCW community, I express my deepest condolences to the families of the U.S. service members and the Afghan civilians who lost their lives or were wounded during an attack at the Kabul, Afghanistan airport on Aug. 26.

These brave service members are among the hundreds of U.S. military personnel whose acts of heroism have saved thousands of civilians seeking refuge in the U.S. and aided in bringing Americans home.

Since its founding, UNCW has supported our military community. I appreciate the bravery and sacrifice of our military service personnel over the past two decades in the war on terror in Afghanistan and other regions around the world. You are not alone in your grief. We mourn with you.

The Office of Military Affairs is available as a resource. Members of our campus community may be experiencing high levels of stress due to the recent violence. We encourage our students to seek help and support through the Counseling Center. Faculty and staff can access counseling services through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
