Challenging, Inspiring and Sustaining: Faculty Honored with Annual Awards

With the coronavirus pandemic continuing to impact lives across the globe, teachers and students alike have had to rapidly adapt to new learning environments. Though it was done virtually this year, UNCW again honored the dedication and talents of its faculty at the annual fall faculty meeting on Sept. 10. Provost James J. Winebrake announced the award recipients.
Professor of Spanish Amanda Boomershine received the Board of Trustees Teaching Excellence Award, the most prestigious award conferred at UNCW. She was also one of two recipients of the Distinguished Teaching Professorship Award, from which the BOT Teaching Excellence Award winner is selected. Professor Amanda S. Williard (biology and marine biology) was the second honoree.
Frederick Scharf, professor of biology, received the Distinguished Faculty Scholar Award. The award was presented by Faculty Senate President Nathan Grove.
Professor of political science Stephen Meinhold was presented with the J. Marshall Crews Distinguished Faculty Award for providing 25 years of leadership and service to the community, students and UNCW. The award is given by the Alumni Association in honor of the late UNCW faculty member and administrator Crews (1919-2010).

Two other awards that were previously announced were recognized at the meeting:

In addition, full-time faculty members who have been at UNCW for five, 10, 15, 20 and 25 years were honored for their years of service.
