UNCW Schedules Test of Siren, Emergency Communication Tools for 12 p.m. Tuesday, June 25

Monday, June 17, 2019

A full-volume test of the UNCW Seahawk Warning Siren System is scheduled for 12 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25. UNCW will test additional emergency communication tools, including email, desktop, phone and text notifications, as well as emergency beacons at CREST Research Park, in concurrence. No action is required during these tests.

The Seahawk Warning Siren System is an outdoor emergency warning tool that the university uses in conjunction with a number of other resources, namely the UNCW homepageFacebookTwitter, campus-wide emails, mass text messages and phone calls, to communicate with the UNCW community during emergencies. EH&S periodically tests the siren system and other emergency communication tools as part of their routine maintenance.

During an Actual Emergency
Monitor UNCW communication tools for instructions and updates and wait for an all-clear notification.

Student Notifications
Student phone numbers are automatically registered to receive UNCW Alert emergency notifications by voice and text message. Students should follow these instructions to review or update their contact numbers. UNCW strongly encourages students to remain signed up for the service to ensure they are always automatically contacted in the event of an emergency, but individuals may opt out by following these instructions.

Faculty-Staff Notifications
Only faculty and staff who have registered their cell phone numbers with the university will receive UNCW Alert emergency text messages and voicemails during the test and in actual emergency situations. UNCW strongly encourages faculty and staff to register for these alerts. Please see these instructions (PDF) to register for the service, change contact numbers or opt out after having previously opted in.
