Thursday, June 13, 2019
Three UNCW staff members and the son of two staff members have been awarded Staff Senate Scholarships.
The recipients are: Kayla Tolson, medical lab technician in the Abrons Student Health Center; Richard Baumgarner III, senior financial aid counselor in the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid; LeAnne Smith, an academic advisor in the Watson College of Education; and UNCW student Ivan Browning.
Browning’s parents are Athletics Department mainstay Joe Browning, senior associate athletics director for communications, and Mary Browning, Staff Senate secretary and an executive assistant in the Office of Human Resources.
Each recipient was awarded $500 to spend on educational pursuits. The scholarships were presented at the June Staff Senate meeting, which also recognized 18 staff senators whose terms expire this summer.
"It is a privilege to work alongside individuals who are so giving of their time and talents in service to fellow staff, colleagues and students at UNCW," said Zachary Hollenbaugh, Staff Senate chair-elect. "They represent the best of the Seahawk spirit and are a key component of what makes this university great."
