Wednesday, May 29, 2019

Following a national search, Dana Harris has been named associate vice chancellor for finance at UNCW, effective July 8, 2019. In her new role, Harris will oversee the accounting, student accounts, payroll, collections, financial reporting, purchasing and budget development functions.

She will report to Miles Lackey, vice chancellor for business affairs.

“Dana’s track record of success and knowledge of UNCW make her the right person at the right time for this position,” said Lackey. “We look forward to having her join the team.”

Harris brings more than 15 years of experience in various capacities at UNCW, most recently as senior associate athletic director for internal operations. Other roles include director of internal audit and director of student accounts. Before coming to UNCW in 2004, she served as an assistant state auditor for 14 years.

In the Athletics Department, she oversaw all aspects of the financial operations and transactions of the department to ensure compliance with university, state, NCAA and CAA policies, as well as all facility operations.

After beginning her career with the North Carolina Office of the State Auditor, Harris came to UNCW in 2004 as director of student account services, where she was responsible for the integrity of student accounts and, among other accomplishments, led the implementation of a more efficient system for processing student refunds. Subsequently, she served as director of internal audit, where she was instrumental in establishing the Office of Internal Audit as a trusted business partner across campus.

“UNCW is an amazing place with great people dedicated to ensuring excellence, and I am honored to serve UNCW in this new capacity,” Harris said. “The finance team provides an array of services to this great university, and I am excited to lead, partner and collaborate with divisional and university colleagues as we all continue to support the university’s strategic initiatives and goals.”

Harris received a B.S. in business administration from Elon University with a minor in accounting. She holds certifications in public accounting, internal auditing and fraud examination, and she is active in many professional and community organizations.
