UNCW Research Professor Cited as Author of Most NOAA Office of Ocean Exploration and Research-Supported Journal Articles
Monday, April 22, 2019
UNCW research professor Steve W. Ross is the author of the most peer-reviewed journal articles resulting from ocean exploration missions supported by the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Office of Ocean Exploration and Research (OER), according to a recent report by the agency. As a result, NOAA found UNCW to be the 10th top-producing institution of OER-supported peer-reviewed articles in the country.
These publications from Ross’ lab involved many UNCW students and research technicians, as well as colleagues from other agencies and universities.
“In addition to our recognized productivity, data from our projects has been used by management agencies to establish and defend deep-sea protected areas,” said Ross, an expert in deep-sea fisheries and ecology.
UNCW’s Strategic Plan emphasizes advancing research that has the potential to have a positive impact on society.
