UNCW Seahawks stepped up on April 9 to make the 6th annual “Give More in 24” challenge the most successful ever. A record 1,890 donors in a single day helped raise more than $250,000 to support students, programs, research, facilities and athletics.

The preliminary total includes a $24 match per gift for reaching the original goal of 1,440 donors in 24 hours and a $2,500 personal contribution from Chancellor Jose V. Sartarelli for surpassing the “stretch goal” of 1,600 donors.

“Seahawks love a challenge, and they showed their team spirit through their gifts and by encouraging friends and family to join them in supporting UNCW,” said Eddie Stuart ’05M, vice chancellor for university advancement. “The generosity of the UNCW family will benefit students and help the university continue to grow with quality.”

This year, a record 400 UNCW students participated in the challenge, due in part to the “Student Org and Sports Club Competition,” which awarded monetary prizes to the student groups with the most donors.

More than $1,360,000 has been raised since the annual initiative began in 2014.
