Friday, March 15, 2019

UNCW Associate Professor of Geography Narcisa Pricope will be the first recipient of the Distinguished Emerging African Scholar Award, to be presented at the annual meeting of the American Association of Geographers

“Dr. Pricope has made significant contributions to research, which is one of the cornerstones of UNCW’s Strategic Plan,” said Aswani Volety, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. “This national award illustrates the depth and relevance of her scholarship, and we congratulate her.”

The award, presented by the organization’s Africa Specialty Group, recognizes distinguished scholarship on any aspect of African geography by a scholar within 10 years of receiving a doctorate. Pricope’s research has included examining vegetation changes in the southern and eastern African drylands.

She will accept the award at the annual AAG event, which will be held April 3-7 in Washington, D.C.
