Michael Last, AiM system administrator within UNCW’s Office of Facilities, is among the 20 state employees honored with this year’s Governor’s Award for Excellence.

The Governor’s Awards for Excellence is the highest honor a state employee may receive for dedicated service and recognizes accomplishments and actions that are outside of the usual scope of their job duties. This year, 116 nominations were received across state government.

Last was recognized in the area of customer service during a ceremony on Oct. 23 at the N.C. Museum of History in Raleigh. He joined UNCW in 2012.

“The state employees honored today have provided extraordinary service to the people of North Carolina,” said Governor Roy Cooper. “Some risked their lives to save those in danger, while others created innovative solutions to workplace challenges. These awardees reached above and beyond their daily responsibilities to embody the state motto, ‘To be rather than to seem,’ and we are grateful for their service.”

AiM, “intelligence within asset management,” is an Asset Works product used by the Office of Facilities to maintain building, property, maintenance and mechanical asset data. Last is responsible for all aspects of managing the AiM system at UNCW, from the highly technical aspects through end user support.

Last takes a hands-on approach in learning how to best serve his customers. He provides assistance on-site to teach staff how to use the system and plans and implements additional efficiencies.

Extensive knowledge of the software, coupled with Last’s notable people skills, contributes to Last’s ability to provide excellent customer service. Learn more about Michael Last and his work at UNCW here.
