William J. “Bill” Bolduc, an associate professor in the UNCW Department of Communication Studies, has received a Telly Award, a prestigious achievement that honors the best in media production.

Bolduc won a Bronze Award with his entry of "One-hundred Thousand Welcomes: The UNCW-Maynooth FYSA Program” in the category of General Schools/Colleges/Universities.

“I’m honored to win my first Telly Award,” he said. “It’s particularly special sharing it with our entire production team. Everyone contributed and did great work. This award exemplifies that our program and our students are getting better and better.”

"One-hundred Thousand Welcomes: The UNCW-Maynooth FYSA Program" showcases UNCW’s First-Year Study Abroad program at Maynooth University in Ireland. The video highlights the study abroad immersion program and the wonders of Ireland through a UNCW freshman’s experience. The project was a collaboration between communication studies and the Office of International Programs.

UNCW students Cassie Danforth, Emily Krochmal, Paul Spencer, Gabe Moore, Bradley Reynolds, Karli Grant, Lauren Schultz, Robert Seagle, Mary Benton, Abbi Hoover, Kevin Macksay and communication studies technical assistant Trahern MacLean worked on the project.

“Our trip to Ireland was a fantastic intercultural and applied learning project,” said Bolduc. “Each contributed a great deal to the final video and each enjoyed their chance to deeply interact with and learn more about Irish culture.”

Now in its 39th year, the Telly Awards recognize the best in media production from a variety of fields such as cable TV, online, video and film productions. There are more than 12,000 entries spanning 50 states and five continents. The Telly winners this year include Amazon Prime, ESPN, HBO, National Geographic, PBS and the Media Production team in the UNCW Office of University Relations.

Bolduc’s award reflects the institution's continued pursuit of excellence, a key priority outlined in UNCW’s Strategic Plan.
